DESIGNER: Markku Vesala
CRAFTSMAN: Eric Fuller
MATERIAL: Purpleheart, Nylon
COMMENTS: The 3x3x3 cube is pretty played out. With only 27 units there are only so many things you can do with it. That's assuming tradition block glued to blocks...if you open up edge connections, a whole new world of complexity appears! Markku's excellent Liberal Cube makes good use of these dynamics, with a very confusing and difficult seven piece serial assembly. I would estimate that the difficulty is on par with Coffin's Convolution design which of course uses a 4x4x4 design format. This puzzle is a lot of fun and displays very well with the contrasting white dowels against the dark purpleheart.

The construction of this puzzle is good. Fit is good, with a bit of imprecision due to cumulative tolerance error. I ended up discounting the's still a very very nice puzzle, it's just not as perfect as I would have liked. It's so fun to solve you won't notice anyway. I promise :)

Happy bidding

To make this auction fairer if the leading bidder has changed any time during the final day, that lot will remain open for an additional day. This will continue until the leading bidder has retained the lead at least one full bidding day. The purpose of this rule is to give the penultimate bidder a reasonable time to counter-offer, and thus to discourage poaching. I feel this is the right thing to do as some bidders are in different time zones and may not be able to bid towards the end, unless they like sleep deprivation. This method is used on various other puzzle auctions.
